JORDY SMITH

Professional surfer competing on the +ASP World Tour

Jordy Smith has been a surfer most of his life and is considered a very hard worker. Jordy Smith's hard work paid off as he became one of the world's best up-and-coming surfers. He won the 2003 Quicksilver ISA World Junior Championships Under-16 in his home country of Durban, South Africa. This WQS win put him in the world spotlight. As an 18-year-old, he won the prestigious Vans Triple Crown of Surfing's Rookie of the Year award. Last year, Jordy won the 2007 ASP World Qualifying Surfing Series by a record margin.

Surfing Style: Jordy Smith has a regular stance. Jordy Smith has a very smooth, powerful, and aggressive surfing style when he rides the waves. Jordy surfs with an unbelievable amount of control, but also has some unique moves. His trademark surfing trick is his aerial maneuver he does in the middle of his waves. He invented a new surfing move called the Swiss Roll - which is where he grabs his surfboard while in the air with both hands and does a 360 degree spin.
